SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- Officials at U.S. Central Command released today’s airpower summary.
Coalition aircraft flew 53 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties Nov. 7 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. The missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.
Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and coalition ground forces operations to create a secure environment for ongoing Transitional National Assembly meetings.
Air Force F-15 Eagles flew air strikes against an anti-Iraqi forces weapons cache in the vicinity of Ar Ramadi. The fighters successfully dropped precision-guided bombs.
Navy F-14 Tomcats and F/A-18 Hornets flew air strikes against buildings used by anti-Iraqi forces as firing positions in the vicinity of Husaybah. The fighters successfully dropped precision-guided bombs.
Navy Hornets also flew air strikes against a building used by anti-Iraqi forces as a firing position in the vicinity of Al Mahmudiyah. The fighters successfully dropped precision-guided bombs.
Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and Eagles provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Husaybah.
Also, seven Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft also flew a non-traditional ISR missions with electro-optical and infrared sensors.
In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 18 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and air presence patrols.
In addition, six Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.
Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Aircraft flew 155 airlift sorties, delivered nearly 150 tons of cargo and approximately 2,900 passengers.
Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and the Republic of Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.
On Nov. 6, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.6 million pounds of fuel.
