Pandemic flu Web site online

The Defense Department went “live” today with a Web site to help meet the objectives outlined in President George Bush's national strategy for pandemic influenza.

The address is: deploymentlink.osd.mil

The site offers information about pandemic flu and avian flu. It has a section of frequently asked questions, a glossary of important terms and health-related information. The site also includes links to other federal government agencies, and more information will be added as it becomes available, officials said.

"In the past few months, DOD assistance to civil authorities during recent natural disasters has demonstrated that, when directed, we are able to respond with a wide array of capabilities to support the nation during times of need,” read a statement on the new Web site.

"With these same capabilities and others, we stand ready to assist in the event of a pandemic," the statement read.

The site also has a section with information for servicemembers, such as the department's role in dealing with avian flu, the risks for servicemembers overseas and protective measures to take.
