CENTAF releases today's airpower summary

Officials at U.S. Central Air Force have released today's airpower summary. 

Coalition aircraft flew 50 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties Nov. 6 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and coalition ground forces operations to create a secure environment for ongoing Transitional National Assembly meetings.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon and Navy F-14 Tomcat aircraft provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinities of Al Qaim, Balad and Tall Afar. The F-16s and F-14s dropped precision-guided bombs in Al Qaim.

In addition, eight Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. And Air Force and Royal Air Force fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 20 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close air support to troops in contact with anti-Coalition forces in the vicinity of Khowst.

In addition, four Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. RAF fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew about 155 airlift sorties, delivered nearly 130 tons and transported more than 3,300 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Japan and the Republic of Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 5, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 32 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel.
