USCENTAF air power summary for Nov. 2 Published Nov. 2, 2005 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Air Force's air power summary for today is: Coalition aircraft flew 34 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties Nov. 1 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and Coalition ground forces operations to create a secure environment for ongoing Transitional National Assembly meetings. United States Air Force F-15s performed an air strike against a building used by anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Husaybah. The F-15s expended precision-guided bombs with successful effects. United States Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close air support to Coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Al Hawijah. In addition, nine U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Royal Air Force fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors. In Afghanistan, Coalition aircraft flew 19 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities, and the conduct of presence route patrols. United States Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-52 Stratofortess provided close air support to Coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinities of Orgun-E and Tarin Kowt. In addition, seven U.S. Air Force and French Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. United States Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. About 180 airlift sorties were flown, nearly 365 tons of cargo, and more than 2,700 passengers were transported. This included approximately 10,000 pounds of troop re-supply airdropped in Southeastern Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF. On Oct. 31, U.S. Air Force, Royal Air Force and French Air Force tankers flew 32 sorties and off-loaded nearly 2.1 million pounds of fuel.
