The 482nd Fighter Wing is preparing for Hurricane Wilma.

Airmen here are evacuating fighter jets and officials are coordinating with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for potential hurricane-relief operations.

Six F-16 Fighting Falcons evacuated to Dobbins Air Force Base, Ga., and three temporarily relocated to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas.

The early evacuation allows pilots and maintainers to return home to south Florida in time to take care of their families before the storm.

Additionally, FEMA representatives held a meeting here Oct. 20 to discuss the possibility of staging hurricane relief operations. If necessary, Homestead may serve as the FEMA staging area for relief operations in south Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.
