Academy sports recap

This week the U.S. Air Force Academy challenged itself and the nation during five collegiate sporting events.

Men’s Soccer:

Air Force toppled the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 1-0, at the cadet soccer stadium. Academy senior David Schill scored the game’s only goal in the early part of the second half of play. The victory snaps a six-game losing streak. The academy will face the University of Denver Oct. 16.

Women’s Tennis:

Meghan Kiser and Kelly Morgan each grabbed second place trophies in their respective divisions of the U.S. Air Force Academy Invitational tennis tournament Oct. 9. The Lady Falcons will meet their next challenge during the ITA Central Region Championships in Salt Lake City, Oct. 19.

Men’s Hockey:

The academy’s men’s hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, during an exhibition match Oct. 10 at the cadet ice arena. The Falcons are 1-1 this season and will travel to Quinnipiac University, Northford, Conn., Oct. 14 to 15.

Men’s Tennis:

Academy senior Shannon Buck, ranked No. 28 in the country, lost in the 16th round of the 2005 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Men’s Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The rest of the Falcons team will play in the UNM Balloon Fiesta Invitational tournament in Albuquerque, N.M., Oct. 15 to 16.

Women’s Soccer:

San Diego State defeated the Lady Falcons, 3-1, Oct. 9 at the cadet soccer stadium. The Falcons drop to 4-10-1 overall and 0-2-2 in conference play for the season. The academy plays Brigham Young University Oct. 13 in Provo, Utah.
