The Air Force Association's 2005 Air and Space Conference and Technology Exposition opened here Sept. 12.

The conference features three days of workshops focused on professional requirements, networking and dialogue among active-duty and reserve-component Airmen, civilians, retirees and industry representatives.

Stephen Condon, the AFA board chairman, opened the ceremony with a special thanks to the people of the Air Force for their efforts in the war on terrorism and hurricane relief efforts.

As part of the first day of the conference, the AFA will honor annual award winners and all the people in the Air Force for the innovation, professionalism and great sacrifice they make for the nation, Mr. Condon said.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley also welcomed Airmen and focused on his three priorities for the Air Force: continuing the war effort, taking care of the people and recapitalizing and modernizing the aircraft fleet.

General Moseley also said the convention is a chance to reflect on Air Force involvement in war on terrorism operations during the past four years.

The conference offers an opportunity to recognize the great work the total Air Force accomplishes every day to defend this great nation, he said.

The opening ceremonies focused on recognizing countless Airmen, civilians and family members who contributed to Air Force success in 2005.

The AFA presented nearly 50 individual and unit awards. A list of AFA’s awards and winners is available online at www.afa.org/AboutUs/nawards.asp.

The most significant award presentation took place when the association recognized the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year for 2005.
