Army and Air Force Exchange Service officials said they are waiving interest and suspending monthly payment requirements to exchange credit program cardholders displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

“According to our records, there are approximately 15,000 accounts impacted in undeliverable zip codes,” said Grant Morris AAFES treasurer. “No interest will be charged, and no payments will be due for an undetermined period of time. The interest rate and payment exclusion, will also apply to new purchases for an extended time period."

AAFES determined eligibility by matching accounts to the U.S. Postal Service’s listing of affected ZIP codes. Affected areas in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi include:

-- Mobile, Ala. ZIP codes 365XX to 366XX.

-- Meridan, Miss. ZIP codes 369XX to 393XX.

-- Hattiesburg, Miss. ZIP codes 394XX.

-- Gulfport, Miss. ZIP codes 395XX

-- McComb, Miss. ZIP codes 396XX.

-- New Orleans. ZIP codes 700XX to 701XX.

-- Houma, La. ZIP codes 703XX.

-- Mandeville, La. ZIP codes 704XX.
