Volunteers fly 'greatest generation' to see their memorial
WASHINGTON -- Retired Col. Bob Manning (right) volunteered to help take care of World War II veterans when they visited the National World War II Memorial in Washington on June 11. The Air Force Academy graduate pushed Elwood Lannon, 84, around the memorial in a wheelchair during the visit. The American flag on the stand to the left was flown over the national cemetery in Dayton, Ohio, and represents the 400,000 servicemen and women who died during World War II and will never view their memorial.
