Cadets get jump on jobs Published May 16, 2005 U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AFPN) -- Junior class cadets here learned what their future Air Force jobs will be a full year ahead of their graduation date.Normally, cadets learn this during the fall semester of their senior year.“The date has been moved forward for current and future classes to maintain a parallel classification process (among) all Air Force commissioning sources and allow cadets to know what their jobs would be a year (before) graduation,” said Capt. Jesus Suarez, cadet personnel director. “This will also give us more time to complete medical flight physicals and security clearances for rated selectees much earlier than in previous years.”Undergraduate pilot training awaits 525 cadets following their graduation in 2006. Another 55 are slated to become developmental engineers while 39 will become Air Force scientists. Also, 29 cadets were selected to become civil engineers.Other Air Force jobs which the cadets received are: space and missile, 34; communications-computers, 32; logistics, 27; intelligence, 24; financial management, 19; navigator, 18; manpower/personnel, 16; contracting, 15; security forces, 10; air traffic control, five; services, four; weather, three; and air-battle manager, two.The 52 cadets slated for acquisitions will first serve an operational tour of three years in the fields of aircraft maintenance, munitions and missile maintenance or intelligence. Each cadet provided a list of his or her top six choices of Air Force jobs. Cadets were then ranked based upon their academic and military standing among their peers. They were then allocated their post-graduation career fields based on this ranking, their preferences, their academic major, any physical qualification factors necessary for desired career fields, and ultimately the needs of the Air Force.Eighty-three percent of the cadets received their first choice, while 92 percent received one of their top two choices, and 96 percent received one of their top three choices.
