Air Force journalists win DOD awards

Air Force print and broadcast journalists won 10 categories in the 2004 Thomas Jefferson Awards for excellence in military media.

The awards recognize military and civilian employee print and broadcast journalists for outstanding achievements in furthering the Department of Defense internal information program.

The Air Force broadcast winners are:

-- Outstanding Flagship Television Program: “Air Force Television News,” Air Force Electronic News, Air Force News Agency headquarters here.

-- Radio Report: Tech. Sgt. Russell Barfield from Air Force News Agency’s Detachment 10, Operation Location B at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.

-- Television Information Program: Tech. Sgt. Sean Lehman from the Pentagon Channel in Alexandria, Va.

-- Television Feature Report: Sergeant Russell Barfield.

-- Regional Television Newscast: Air Force News Agency’s Detachment 1 in Mannheim, Germany.

The Air Force print-media winners are:

-- Newsletter Format Publication: Wingspan, 53rd Wing at Eglin AFB, Fla.

-- Commentary: Senior Airman Micah Garbarino from the 75th Air Base Wing at Hill AFB, Utah.

-- Series: Rudy Purificato from the 311th Human Systems Wing at Brooks City-Base, Texas.

-- Art/Graphics in Support of a Publication: Staff Sgt. Brian Bahret from the 78th ABW at Robins AFB, Ga.

-- Contractor/Stringer (Photographer): Charley Starr from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo.
