Air Force officials postpone technology conference Published April 21, 2005 GUNTER ANNEX, Ala. (AFPN) -- The 2005 Air Force Information Technology Conference scheduled for Aug. 28 to Sept. 1 in Montgomery, Ala., has been postponed until after January 2006.The move follows an announcement by Air Force officials to redirect as much funding as possible to support the war on terrorism, said Frank Weber, Air Force Operations Support Systems Wing director at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. The wing is the parent organization of Operations and Sustainment Systems Group headquarters here. “Funds normally reserved for conferences and seminars, training, travel and other requirements not directly tied to the (war on terrorism) must be redirected to the warfighters who are directly supporting the war effort,” Mr. Weber said. “The Air Force has to realign more than $3 billion from its operating costs in fiscal … 2005 to the war effort. Therefore, any official events not directly tied to the war have been or are being considered for suspension.”The conference provides an annual forum and training symposium to keep military and civilian information technology experts abreast of the latest developments in technology and the future technology trends the Air Force can use to support the warfighter.
