Officials announce annual civil engineer award winners

Air Force officials joined three civilian professional associations in honoring Air Force civil engineers recently.

The Society of American Military Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Northeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives and Air Force officials announced their annual civil engineer award winners. The three organizations work with the Air Force civil engineer community each year to sponsor the awards. Awards categories and winners are:

-- Brig. Gen. Michael A. McAuliffe Award for best Air Force civil engineer housing flight: 9th Civil Engineer Squadron at Beale Air Force Base, Calif.

-- Maj. Gen. Robert C. Thompson Award for best Air Force civil engineer resources flight: 435th Civil Engineering Group at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

-- Brig. Gen. Archie S. Mayes Award for best Air Force civil engineer engineering flight: 81st CES at Keesler AFB, Miss.

-- Maj. Gen. Clifton D. Wright Award for best Air Force civil engineer operations flight: 1st CES at Langley AFB, Va.

-- Chief Master Sgt. Ralph E. Sanborn Award for best Air Force civil engineer fire protection flight: 90th CES at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo.

-- Senior Master Sgt. Gerald J. Stryzak Award for best Air Force civil engineer explosive ordnance disposal flight: 775th CES at Hill AFB, Utah.

-- Col. Frederick J. Riemer Award for best Air Force active-duty civil engineer readiness flight: 60th CES at Travis AFB, Calif.

-- Col. Frederick J. Riemer Award for best Air Force reserve-component civil engineer readiness flight: 910th Mission Support Group at Vienna, Ohio.

-- Environmental Flight Award: 354th CES at Eielson AFB, Alaska.

-- Maj. Gen. Joseph A. Ahearn Enlisted Leadership Award: Chief Master Sgt. Paul Kaplan of the 60th CES.

-- Maj. Gen. William D. Gilbert Award (officer category): Maj. Aaron Benson of Air Mobility Command headquarters at Scott AFB, Ill.

-- Maj. Gen. William D. Gilbert Award (enlisted category): Senior Master Sgt. Mary Smith of the Air and Space Expeditionary Force Center at Langley.

-- Maj. Gen. William D. Gilbert Award (civilian category): Roger Johnston of U.S. Air Forces in Europe headquarters at Ramstein.

-- The Harry P. Rietman Award (senior civilian manager): Marc Aoyama of the 15th CES at Hickam AFB, Hawaii.

-- Outstanding Civil Engineer Senior Military Manager: Lt. Col. David Maharrey Jr. of the 35th CES at Misawa AB, Japan.

-- Maj. Gen. Eugene A. Lupia Award (outstanding civil engineer military manager): Capt. Christopher Meeker of the 3rd CES at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.

-- Chief Master Sgt. Larry R. Daniels Award (outstanding civil engineer military superintendent): Senior Master Sgt. Jacob Dunbar of the 374th CES at Yokota AB, Japan.

-- Maj. Gen. Eugene A. Lupia Award (outstanding civil engineer military technician): Tech. Sgt. Neil Jones of the 375th CES at Scott.

-- Outstanding Civil Engineer Civilian Manager: Stanley Mrzygod Jr. of the 92nd CES at Fairchild AFB, Wash.

-- Outstanding Civil Engineer Civilian Supervisor: Volkmar Born of the 52nd CES at Spangdahlem AB, Germany.

-- Outstanding Civil Engineer Civilian Technician: Christopher Roe of the 375th CES at Scott.

-- Outstanding Civil Engineer Air Reserve Component Officer Manager: Maj. Robert Bowie of the 113th CES at Andrews AFB, Md.

-- Outstanding Civil Engineer ARC Senior NCO Manager: Chief Master Sgt. Leonard Apo of Pacific Air Forces headquarters at Hickam.

-- Outstanding Civil Engineer ARC NCO Manager: Tech. Sgt. Charles Newsome of the 315th CES at Charleston AFB, S.C.

-- Maj. Gen. Augustus M. Minton Award (outstanding Air Force Civil Engineer Magazine article): Maj. Marc Vandeveer of USAFE.

-- Outstanding Community Planner: Robert Brett James of the 35th CES.
