Academy swimmers go 5-2 at Winter Invite Published Jan. 7, 2005 BOCA RATON, Fla. (AFPN) -- The Air Force Academy men’s swimming team went 3-1, and the women’s team went 2-1 in head-to-head matchups at the Florida Atlantic University’s Winter Invitational. The Falcons were led by Chris Knaute, who took first place in three events.The Falcon men were victorious over Florida Atlantic (120-108), Michigan State University (168-16) and Transylvania University (157-56) and lost to Purdue University (132.-73). They now run their season record to 12-5.Knaute won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute and 41.39 seconds), the 500 free (4:38.91) and the 200 individual medley (1:56.93).Four Falcon men, Ryan Moss (50 free, 22.08), Justin Lapin (200 backstroke, 1:57.12), Andrew Bergman (200 breaststroke, 2:11.35) and Ryan Fitzgerald (1000 free, 9:50.79), finished second in their respective events.The Air Force women downed Michigan State (148-28) and Transylvania (146-79) and lost to Florida Atlantic (200.50-38.50). The women are now 19-12 for the year.Four Falcon women took second in their events. Andrea Hyma took second in the 50 free (25.79), Lauren White took second in the 500 free (5:11.19), Stephanie Hirst took second in the 200 breast (2:29.94) and Lara Styles was second in the 200 butterfly (2:14.99).The Air Force swimming and diving teams compete again Jan. 21 at home against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in a Mountain West Conference showdown.
