Falcons win first game at water polo tournament Published Nov. 19, 2004 DAVIS, Calif. (AFPN) -- With two goals in the final 1 minute and 32 seconds of regulation play, the ninth-seeded Air Force water polo team grabbed a 6-4 victory over eighth-seed University of California-Santa Cruz in the first round of the Western Water Polo Association Tournament here Nov. 18.Air Force (7-20), which dropped a close 4-3 decision to the team three weeks ago, again came out evenly matched against UC-Santa Cruz. The teams battled to a 2-2 tie at halftime, but the Falcons outscored the Slugs 2-1 in the third period to take a 4-3 lead into the final stanza.After the Slugs tied the game, Falcon Chris Nary recorded his fourth goal of the game to put Air Force ahead for good. Murphey Morgan added an insurance score with just 39 seconds remaining on the clock to seal Air Force’s 6-4 victory.Nary’s offensive output of four goals was his highest of the season, while he also drew three ejections and notched two steals in the game. Morgan added three assists to his lone goal, and now sits just 3 points shy of fifth place on the academy’s career scoring list. Rounding out the scoring for the Falcons was Clark Condict with a goal in the third period.Matt Herrera also had an impressive outing for Air Force, notching five steals while handing out two assists; however, the most valuable player for the Falcons in the game was captain Jared Jones with seven saves and five steals in goal.
