Airman named outstanding young American Published Aug. 20, 2004 TULSA, Okla. (AFPN) -- An Airman stationed at Sembach Annex, Germany, was named one of the 2004 Ten Outstanding Young Americans by U.S. Junior Chamber officials here.Maj. Eric Axelbank, 38, commands the 435th Materiel Maintenance Squadron. He will receive the award during a ceremony in New Orleans on Sept. 18.Annually since 1938, chamber officials have sought out the 10 young people who best exemplify the finest attributes of America’s youthful achievers.Nominees must be 21 to 40 years old and American citizens or citizenship applicants.Major Axelbank’s previous assignment was as a joint logistics war planner at U.S. Pacific Command where he wrote complex and time-sensitive war plans for Operation Enduring Freedom after Sept. 11, 2001. He was selected as the readiness adviser to the senior staff on the war on terrorism.In 1996, Major Axelbank commanded Kwang Ju Air Base, South Korea. The local chamber of commerce president recognized him as the founding father of the Korean-American Friendship Association.
