Officials announce Air Force chaplain service award winners

Officials announced the Air Force chaplain service award winners on June 25.

Established this year, the award program recognizes outstanding individual and organizational performance within the chaplain service. The 2003 winners are:

-- Richard C. Schneider Award (chaplain’s assistant, Airman): Airman 1st Class Christine Messenger-Parekh from the 37th Training Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

-- Charles R. Meier Award (chaplain’s assistant, noncommissioned officer): Tech. Sgt. Kerry Williams from the 59th Medical Wing at Lackland.

-- Gerrald Cullins Award (chaplain’s assistant, senior NCO): Master Sgt. Milton Gilbert from the Center for Professional Development at Maxwell AFB, Ala.

-- Edwin R. Chess Award chaplain category (chaplain, company grade officer): Capt. Matthew Boarts from the 355th Wing at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.

-- Robert P. Taylor Award (small base chapel): F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo.

-- Terence P. Finnegan Award (medium base chapel): Beale AFB, Calif.

-- Charles I. Carpenter Award (large base chapel): Luke AFB, Ariz.

The awards are named after first three former senior enlisted managers and the first four previous chiefs of the chaplain service.
