Read about Airmen chasing Olympic dreams, learn about the Army Air Forces involvement in D-Day and take a look at how one base is working to create happy trails for tiny lizards. These features and more highlight the June issue of Airman magazine, now available in print and online at www.af.mil/news/airman.

Living Legends -- When 1st Lt. Ike Alhadeff awoke June 6, 1944, he did not realize that by day’s end he would be involved in a battle that would turn the tide of World War II. He also was oblivious to the fact that two months later he would be a prisoner of war.

Olympic Dreams -- Olympic dreams do not necessarily end when an Air Force career begins. For the past two years, 22 Air Force athletes have trained for the 2004 Summer Olympics as part of the World-Class Athlete Program. Most of them will not be there for the opening ceremony in Athens, Greece, but the spirit of the Olympics will be present long after they return to their regular Air Force jobs. Meet the Airmen chasing those dreams.

Their Favorite Year -- In 1993, 12 people met at a banquet in their honor. More than 10 years later, those people took different roads and went different ways, but the memories and friendships linger.

Echoes of Silence -- Three profoundly deaf children force a mother and father to question their faith, their parenting and his Air Force future. Read about where they turn for help.

Have Backpack, Will Travel -- At Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., scientists are strapping backpacks onto the Texas horned lizard to pry into its lifestyle habits. The data they are gaining could result in happier trails for the reptile whose numbers are declining.
