Air Force officials want potential recruits to know “we’ve been waiting for you.”

That is the message of four new commercials under production at various locations in California.

In filming May 19, three Airmen from Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif., floated for seven hours with the aid of cable rigging in a simulated orbital vehicle to complete about 15 seconds of one commercial.

“It’s been great,” said Capt. Ryan Hall, the chief of space-based infrared systems highly elliptical Earth-orbit integration and testing. “It’s really neat to see how a Hollywood production works.”

Captain Hall said he liked the concept of the advertisements also.

“They give the sense that there are different things to do in the Air Force other than flying airplanes,” he said. “It shows a broader view of the different careers available.”

Showing the diversity of Air Force careers was what the creative team that designed the ads had in mind, the co-writer of one commercial said.

“Part of the ‘we’ve been waiting for you’ campaign is to show there are a huge variety of opportunities, no matter what your interest or talent,” said Dolores Stark of the commercial production company.

More filming is scheduled for May 25 to 27 at Edwards AFB, Calif. The commercials are scheduled to air on television in the fall.
