Two Airmen were among the recipients of the annual Government Employees Insurance Company Military Service Awards.

The Airmen were chosen for the award because of their work with drug- and alcohol-abuse prevention programs, officials said.

Air Force award recipients for 2003 are:

-- Senior Master Sgt. Vaughn Gates from the 940th Security Forces Squadron at Beale Air Force Base, Calif.

-- Staff Sgt. MaShawn Black from the 72nd Medical Group at Tinker AFB, Okla.

Award recipients received a plaque, a $2,500 cash honorarium, and roundtrip transportation and lodging here to attend the awards presentation.

For 15 years, GEICO has recognized servicemembers from all branches of the service -- including the Guard and Reserve -- for work in drug- and alcohol-abuse prevention, fire safety and prevention, traffic safety and accident prevention.
