General Sherrard relinquishes command, retires

Lt. Gen. James E. Sherrard III relinquished command of Air Force Reserve Command during a ceremony here May 11. The ceremony was presided over by Gen. John P. Jumper, Air Force chief of staff.

Maj. Gen. John J. Batbie Jr., AFRC vice commander, will lead the command until General Sherrard’s replacement is confirmed by the Senate.

President George W. Bush nominated Maj. Gen. John A. Bradley to replace General Sherrard and to be promoted to lieutenant general.

General Sherrard returned here to say goodbye to friends and associates, and conclude a military career that spanned nearly four decades. His retirement will take effect June 1.
