Air Force defeats Montana, 6-1, in women's tennis Published April 2, 2004 U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AFPN) -- The Air Force women's tennis team won its second consecutive match with a 6-1 victory April 2 over the University of Montana. Air Force swept the three doubles matches and won five of six singles as the Falcons improved their record to 12-5.Air Force took the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Seniors Laura Nigro and Gina Black won the No. 1 match, 8-1, over Annabelle Janiero and Colby Fannin. Sophomore Kat Bushey and freshman Karissa Walker had a little tougher match at the No. 2 spot, but pulled out an 8-6 victory over Michaela Zima and Lindsey Torgerson. Junior Katie Tomkie and freshman Kellie Crail completed the sweep with an 8-4 triumph over Jonna Schwartz and Bonny Bowen.The Falcons kept their momentum in the singles action, as Air Force won its five matches, all in straight sets. Nigro improved her record at No. 1 singles to 9-5 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Janairo. Bushey defeated Zima, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot, while Walker won her second straight match at the No. 3 position, defeating Torgerson, 6-2, 6-3.Black won the No. 4 match, 6-2, 6-4 over Fannin and Crail beat Malena Rosen, 9-7, at No. 6. Schwartz posted the lone win for Montana, defeating Falcons’ Tomkie in three sets, 2-6, 6-2 and 10-6 in the super tie-breaker.The Falcons travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to begin their Mountain West Conference schedule. Air Force battles Colorado State on April 3, then Wyoming on April 4.
