(AFPN) -- An academy graduate, who is now a U.S. congresswoman from New Mexico, took time March 30 on the House floor to honor the school’s 50th anniversary.Rep. Heather Wilson, a 1982 distinguished graduate, submitted a resolution congratulating the academy on its 50th anniversary and recognizing the school's contributions to the nation.“Therefore be it resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring) that the U.S. Congress congratulates the U.S. Air Force Academy on its 50th anniversary,” the resolution states.The resolution passed unanimously acknowledging the continued excellence of the academy and its critical role in the defense of the nation.“This was a way for the Congress to honor the academy,” Representative Wilson said. “I want all the cadets to know that 420 members of the House support the academy.”The resolution passed by Representative Wilson also stated that the academy is recognized worldwide as the premier developer of air and space officers and leaders with impeccable character and knowledge.Representative Wilson served in the Air Force for 11 years; four as a cadet and seven on active duty. She left the service in 1989 as a captain.
