Earthquake hits Vandenberg Published Dec. 22, 2003 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AFPN) -- The base felt the effects of the preliminary magnitude 6.5-earthquake that rocked central California on Dec. 22 at 11:15 a.m. A 30th Space Wing emergency response team reacted to the quake.There have been no reported injuries or deaths here as a result. Civil engineers report there has been minor structural damage to one base facility. Several facilities are affected by gas leaks. The base's main water supply is sound but there is a leak in one building. One of the base's two main electrical feeders is down and about 10 percent of the base is still without power.The 30th SW commander has released all nonessential people from duty. Those who do not live on base or have mission-related duties to conduct will not be allowed on base until further notice.Base assessments are ongoing.
