AF names environmental winners Published Dec. 19, 2003 WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- The Air Force civil engineer announced the winners of the Gen. Thomas D. White Environmental Award for 2003.Nine of the winners are eligible for the secretary of defense environmental-security award and will go forward as the nominees.The 2003 winners are:-- Environmental Quality Award (non-industrial): Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.-- Environmental Quality Award (Reserve component): 934th Airlift Wing at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Air Reserve Station, Minn.-- Restoration Award (all installations): Tinker AFB, Okla.-- Pollution Prevention Award (industrial): Robins AFB, Ga.-- Natural Resources Conservation Award (small base): 14th Flying Training Wing’s civil engineer squadron environmental flight at Columbus AFB, Miss.-- Cultural Resources Management Award (all installations): 45th Space Wing’s CES environmental flight at Patrick AFB, Fla.-- Environmental Quality Award for Individual/Team Excellence: Roger Christensen of Nellis AFB, Nev.-- Restoration Award for Individual/Team Excellence: 45th SW’s CES environmental flight, Patrick AFB.-- Pollution Prevention Acquisition Individual/Team Award: Air Force Material Command’s Acquisition P2 Team at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.-- Natural Resources Conservation Award for Individual/Team Excellence: (tie) Gregory W. Lee of Moody AFB, Ga.; and 86th CES at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. (Lee will represent the Air Force in the Department of Defense competition)“These awards showcase your extraordinary contributions to the Air Force and clearly show our commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Maj. Gen. L. Dean Fox, Air Force civil engineer. “I congratulate the winners for being leaders in our environmental program and an integral part of the Air Force team. I expect this year’s secretary of defense awards program to be more competitive than ever.”The Air Force captured three of nine secretary of defense environmental awards in 2002, said environmental officials.A ceremony and reception to honor the winners will take place at the Pentagon on May 5.
