Air Force CD features Toby Keith Published Nov. 20, 2003 By Staff Sgt. John Asselin Air Force Recruiting Service Public Affairs RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- This year's Red, White and Air Force Blue holiday compact disc features music and interviews from country-music star Toby Keith. This is the ninth holiday CD produced by the Air Force Recruiting Service. The CD is sent to radio stations across the country to help get the Air Force message on the airwaves, said Master Sgt. Gary Quesenberry, of the service’s marketing division here. It also helps stations with their holiday programming. "Ideally, the CDs will allow station (managers to give) time off (to) their radio staff," Quesenberry said. "Automation in radio stations today allows them to plug in prerecorded programming ... at the same time, we get our message out across the country."The music on the CD came from an existing Keith album titled, “Christmas to Christmas,” that is now out of print, Quesenberry said. "Unlike previous CDs with country stars covering traditional Christmas songs, the music on this one is all original composition," Quesenberry said.Recruiting officials used parts of an interview with Keith and added narration between the songs, he said. The CD includes three public service announcements based on the concept "You can do anything if you set your mind to it," performed by Lonestar, Lee Ann Womack and Keith. Keith recorded an additional "shout out" to thank servicemembers overseas. It is placed as a separate cut to be played on American Forces Radio and Television Service stations. The CD was sent to every country-radio station in the United States, plus 120 AFRTS affiliates, which reach 88 countries and more than 100 million people. Program directors should have the CDs by Nov. 27, Quesenberry said. Some smaller stations have been known to play a special featuring the CD five to 10 times leading up to the holidays, he said.
