The following is a joint message from Secretary of the Air Force Dr. James G. Roche and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John P. Jumper:

“Americans nationwide take time to honor their military veterans every year on the day World War I ended when the Germans and Allied powers signed an armistice at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918.

“Today, more than ever, Americans are proud of what you do each and every day for the country. They understand your sacrifice, are thankful for your service and respect every American who wears the uniform of our armed forces.

“On this Veterans Day, we hope you’ll take time to remember our brothers and sisters who came before us, particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice in fighting and winning our wars and defending the values upon which this great nation was founded. There is no calling more noble, no service more honorable and no title more patriotic than to be known as a veteran.

“On this day of remembrance, let’s keep in our thoughts and prayers our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who are deployed on all fronts, serving in this noble cause, our war on terrorism.

“We’re very proud of you and we thank you for your service to this great nation!”
