A senior cadet faces a court-martial early next month for charges filed Sept. 17. Charges include alleged misuse of government equipment, software and internet services while organizing inappropriate activities off-base; for conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman; and for arranging group sex.

Cadet 1st Class Sterling Barnes waived his Article 32 hearing, and his court-martial is tentatively set for Oct. 1, at the academy.

Barnes is charged with failing to obey a lawful order or regulation, a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He is also charged with using government-provided hardware and software to advertise and sell pornography for commercial gain, and with viewing, displaying, and storing obscene material using government-provided equipment.

The cadet is also charged with conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman, for engaging in sexual intercourse with women while other men were present. Additionally, he is charged with pandering by arranging for more than one man other than himself to engage in acts of sexual intercourse with a woman, an action that is prejudicial to the good order and discipline of the armed forces.

Should Barnes be found guilty of these offenses, he faces a maximum punishment of 14 years confinement, forfeiture of all pay and allowances and dismissal from the Air Force.
