August issue of Citizen Airman available

The August edition of Citizen Airman highlights how F-16 Fighting Falcon instructors in Arizona are going above and beyond in their efforts to provide the Air Force with top-notch combat fighter pilots.

The magazine tells how airmen from the 944th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base are kicking the initial qualification course up a notch. Pilots are incorporating their experiences flying combat sorties in Afghanistan into training. Besides performing their training responsibilities, the instructor pilots are maintaining their readiness to participate in operational missions should shortfalls occur within Air Force Reserve Command’s other F-16 units.

Members of AFRC have proven they are willing to contribute their time and talents, whenever and wherever needed. Meet some “super-volunteers” in the August issue.

In other stories, read about reservists at Barksdale AFB, La., who are conducting close-air support training with soldiers from Fort Hood, Texas, and two individual mobilization augmentees supporting the U-2 Dragon Lady surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft.

The issue also features the 305th Rescue Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., helping a new active-duty unit get off the ground, and a flight test unit playing a big role in a program to upgrade the Air Force’s fleet of T-38 Talon aircraft.

Also, read about a college professor who leads a project to build a modern-day version of a Wright Brothers’ airplane. The project helps promote interest among young people to a career in aviation or the aerospace industry.
