Motorcycle crash kills airman Published July 24, 2003 MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan (AFPN) -- An airman assigned here was killed in a motorcycle accident July 23 in Misawa City, Japan. Staff Sgt. Adam R. Peck, 27, died when his motorcycle collided with a truck driven by a Japanese civilian. The accident happened at an intersection about one mile from the base. Peck, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was taken to the Misawa City Hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The Japanese driver was not injured. Peck, a native of Sarasota, Fla., was assigned to the inspection section in the 35th Maintenance Squadron. He entered the Air Force in May 1995.Peck is the 18th active-duty airman to die since the 101 Critical Days of Summer safety campaign began May 23. Sixteen were killed in vehicle accidents -- 10 on motorcycles."Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Sergeant Peck," said Col. Donald Weckhorst, 35th Fighter Wing vice commander. "Tragedies like this really hit home when it's somebody you work beside day after day. The Misawa family has lost one of its own."
