A-10 crashes in Baghdad

An A-10 Thunderbolt II pilot ejected safely before the aircraft crashed in Baghdad, Iraq, on April 8. The pilot was rescued by coalition ground forces, according to a U.S. Central Command official.

During a press briefing from Qatar, Army Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks said, "The aircraft is believed to (have been) shot down by a surface-to-air missile."

The aircraft crashed near Baghdad International Airport in Iraq on April 8 at approximately 2:15 a.m. EDT.

The pilot was reported to be in good condition, according to CENTCOM's Combined Air Operations Center officials.
