'This is for you'

Today I took a late lunch in town and stopped into KFC, in uniform.

I was almost finished with my lunch and had some chicken grease on my fingers. A gentleman from across the room walked over to my table and handed me a folded piece of paper, and said, "This is for you." I reached out my two clean fingers and took the paper. I wiped off my hands and opened the paper.

Written inside were these words: "Soldier, thank you for taking care of us and our nation. May God bless you and watch over you and your family always."

Holding back tears, I looked over to where he sat with his wife, smiled, and said, "Thank you." I got up, emptied my tray, and walked over to their table. I thanked them again for thinking of us and told them it was an honor to do what we do.

On the way back to base, I had a hard time keeping the tears away. Here were two complete strangers, that I'll probably never meet again, taking the time to express their support and blessings for members of the military.

Many of us here are safe with our families and all the comforts of home. But we have many brothers and sisters in arms sleeping on cots in tents so far from home and so near the bullets and the bombs.

It fills me with great pride to know that there are people like these two whose way of life we defend.

This little note with such a giant message was meant for us all, especially those in harm's way. So, I'll add my blessing to it and pass it on to you. (Coutesy Air Combat Command News Service)
