The Air Force News Service has compiled a list of the top 10 stories on AF.mil for 2015. The stories were placed in order based on the number of views.

10. US Airman recognized as 'hero' in Paris

The U.S. ambassador to France recognized Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone for his actions in saving countless lives during a terrorist attack aboard a train headed toward Paris Aug. 21. Stone and his two friends, Aleksander Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, were on vacation and headed from Amsterdam to Paris when an armed man entered their cabin.


9. Enlisted evaluation, promotion systems to use new EPR forms, forced distribution, stratification restrictions

In June, with static closeout dates for each rank in place, the Air Force announced it will update the enlisted performance report forms and utilize new forced distribution and senior rater stratification restrictions to round out the incremental changes to enlisted evaluation and promotion systems with performance as the driving factor in promotions.


8. Ship named in honor of Air Force captain

Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James and Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus conducted the official naming ceremony of Motor Vessel Capt. David I. Lyon Jan. 14 at the Pentagon. Capt. David Lyon, a logistics officer from Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, was killed in action in Afghanistan Dec. 27, 2013. Air Force and Navy officials honored Lyon by naming the newest pre-positioning vessel after him. The sponsor for the Capt. David I. Lyon is his wife, Capt. Dana Lyon.


7. AF identifies Boeing 747-8 platform for next Air Force One

Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James in coordination with Frank Kendall, the under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, determined that the Boeing 747-8 will serve as the next presidential aircraft, commonly known as Air Force One.


6. Dwell time, PT exemptions for new AF mothers increase to 1 year

Air Force officials announced on July 14 that the six-month deferment for female Airmen to accomplish their fitness assessments following childbirth will be increased to 12 months to align with recent changes to the deployment deferments.


5. Air Force mourns the loss of ninth Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force

James C. Binnicker, the ninth chief master sergeant of the Air Force, passed away March 21 in Calhoun, Ga. Chief Binnicker served in the Air Force’s top enlisted position from July 1, 1986 to July 31, 1990. During his tenure he led the transformation from the Airman Performance Report to the Enlisted Performance Report, and developed the performance feedback system; these were just some of his achievements during his time in the position.


4. Airman 1st Class Stone in stable condition

Staff Sgt. Spencer Stone, the Air Force service member who helped thwart a gunman’s attack on a French train in August, was involved in a stabbing incident Oct. 8 in Sacramento. He was treated at a local hospital and released a week later.


3. Airmen in C-130 crash identified, memorialized

Six Airmen assigned to the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing died Oct. 2 when their C-130J Super Hercules crashed shortly after takeoff from Jalalabad Airfield, Afghanistan. The wing held a fallen comrade ceremony to honor the Airmen who made the ultimate sacrifice while doing their duty on the combat frontier and to allow their wingmen to pay their respects and mourn their loss.


2. Former Airman sentenced to 18 years in drunken-driving death tells story

Former Airman 1st Class Lane Wyatt was responsible for killing a young woman while driving under the influence June 30, 2013, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was sentenced Dec. 19, 2014, to 18 years in prison. He recounted that night, what he did wrong and how he now has to live with a lifetime of guilt.


1. USAF Band surprises commuters at DC train station

Members of the U.S. Air Force Band surprised commuters at Union Station with a World War II holiday flashback Dec. 3. The event was designed to be a special holiday musical presentation celebrating the service and sacrifices of the nation's WWII veterans.
