  • USTRANSCOM assists in return of Americans stranded abroad due to COVID-19 travel restrictions

    Supporting the U.S. Department of State’s efforts to bring American citizens home as the pandemic spread across the globe, the USTRANSCOM unit, contracted 14 separate commercial charter airlift missions, transporting thousands back to the U.S. from five different African and Asian nations.

    In an effort to minimize the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 and to prioritize the health and safety of Department of the Air Force personnel, the following modifications have been made:

    In total, 33 service members from three EUCOM theater bands conducted a total of 98 classes for over 300 students from 30 schools in seven countries.

    Capt. Jack Gouge joined the special tactics career field eight years ago with a strong desire to serve his nation and potentially save lives. When COVID-19 started spreading throughout the U.S., that same desire to serve sparked a long-term effort to support locals in need during the pandemic.
  • Fitness testing suspended until Oct. 1

    The change, which is an update from the original June 1 resume date, is effective immediately.

  • AFLCMC maintenance team airlifts to repair F-16s during COVID-19 pandemic

    To prevent a standard 14-day mandatory quarantine required by personnel traveling through commercial airports, the AFLCMC depot field team located at Hill AFB, Utah, were flown directly to Holloman AFB on a C-130 Hercules the week of April 27 to fix three F-16 Fighting Falcons in a weeks’ time and keep the 49th Wing mission ready.
  • AFRAMP enables rapid US-based production of PPE, medical supplies

    This initiative, which kicked off on April 10 as part of the Department of the Air Force Acquisition COVID-19 Task Force, is designed as a framework to keep the Air Force supply system independent of the civilian medical supply market.
  • First Air Force provides COVID-19 support through CAP

    CAP’s Michigan Wing has partnered with Michigan State Police, who handle emergency management and lead the state emergency operations center. The wing was available with resources from the moment the center was set up in response to the pandemic.
  • Barnes Center graduates first virtual class

    The virtual graduation included a guest speaker and each student's name being called aloud. This is the first class within the center to attend and graduate virtually.
  • USAFE provides C-130J transport support to Italy

    The mission is the first in a planned series of U.S. Air Forces in Europe mobility support operations to Italy and helped redistribute more than 15,000 kilograms of COVID-19 relief supplies, including KN-95 masks, surgical gowns and COVID-19 test kits between Italian distribution hubs.
  • Air University invests in technology to mitigate airborne pathogens at OTS

    The strategy for the current Officer Training School class included prescreening the 305 officer trainees before and after they arrived for class at the end of March, strict adherence to physical distancing, frequent sanitizing of contact surfaces, coordinated student movement and implementation of other Department of Defense and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention public health measures to mitigate transmission of the disease.
  • Air Force Genetics Laboratory, DHA collaborate to further sequence SARS-CoV-2 code

    The molecular diagnostic lab at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, is just one of a large group of collaborators working together to decipher the SARS-CoV-2 genome. Keesler AFB has partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, academic institutions, and other DoD labs, including the 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
  • Travis AFB bolsters aeromedical evacuation capabilities amid COVID-19

    Air Mobility Command, headquartered at Scott AFB, Illinois, selected Travis AFB, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, and Ramstein Air Base, Germany, as staging grounds for its aeromedical missions involving Transportation Isolation System use.
  • Air Force Reserve epidemiologist volunteers for COVID-19 fight

    Due to the overwhelming numbers of coronavirus patients, the Air Force Reserve called on its Airmen to help ensure hot spots around the country have the support they need. Dr. (Maj.) Sanjiv Baxi, 349th Medical Group doctor, jumped at the opportunity to help.
  • First group of Airmen from Hill AFB’s 34th Fighter Squadron return home

    The Airmen are made up of pilots from the active duty 34th FS and Reserve 466th FS, as well as active duty and Reserve Airmen in the 34th and 466th Aircraft Maintenance Units, and personnel in other support functions.
  • CSAF visits BMT, thanks team for ‘fighting through’ COVID-19 response

    Basic military training, in addition to technical and flying training, has been deemed mission essential and vital to readiness.
  • DAF ACT contracting executes N95 mask production for DoD

    The Department of the Air Force’s Acquisition COVID-19 Task Force (DAF-ACT) executed a $126 million contract on May 1 for expanded production of N95 masks—26 million per month—starting in October. The contract, awarded to 3M, will increase the supply chain of N95 masks and resupply the Strategic National Stockpile following increased demand due to COVID-19.
  • PMEL continues calibration for total force during COVID-19

    As one of only seven labs that has the necessary equipment and personnel to perform air data calibration, the Otis Air National Guard Base PMEL provides precision calibration and measurement for 16 different Air Force, Air National Guard and foreign military support flying missions, as well as local support for District 1 of the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • Nuclear command leverages academia, industry data in COVID-19 fight

    Through a partnership with the Cyber Innovation Center, Louisiana Tech University, and Virtualitics Inc., Air Force Global Strike Command officials rapidly developed a daily report consisting of infection rate projections based on a COVID-19 Susceptible, Exposed, Infected, Resistant, or SEIR, model.
