NAWCAD Lab Tour Series
Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division
Dec. 18, 2025 | 6:11
Strategic Intent: To communicate the innovations and cutting-edge technologies used to support full-spectrum readiness for U.S. Sailors and Marines. Prototyping & Fabrication Lab: From bold ideas to air-ready aircraft, NAWCAD's Prototyping, Instrumentation & Experimentation (PIE) team designs, builds and tests cutting-edge systems for the Navy and beyond - quickly and efficiently. Prototype. Test. Fly. Repeat. EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse Lab): NAWCAD's Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) site at Patuxent River Naval Air Station is the largest of its kind in the U.S. Here, the team tests aircraft, missiles and ground systems against the powerful electromagnetic waves that could result from a nuclear detonation in space. The mission? To ensure our military’s technology can survive and fight back if the unthinkable happens. GaIA Lab: For the first time, the Navy can precisely test how well modern oxygen systems remove impurities to ensure safe air for aircrew. Take a look at how the team in the GaIA lab at Patuxent River Naval Air Station is testing on-board oxygen systems to see if they meet the latest military standards.
