'Coupon Lady' saves Airmen money

Lajes Field, Azores (AFNEWS) --  Jasmin Malboeuf is a stay-at-home mom and housewife -- most of the time. But she's also earned a different title from Lajes commissary goers:  the Coupon Lady.

It started about eight months ago. Tech. Sgt. David Roux and his wife stopped by the Lajes Field Airmen and Family Readiness Center to look through grocery coupons and take what they need.  Among other services, the center receives coupons in the mail from various organizations in the United States for use by Airmen and their families.

Sergeant Roux and his wife found piles of unused coupons and decided it was time to put them to good use. They gathered volunteers to help sort the coupons. Jasmin then took the coupons to the commissary. 

"Jasmin Malboeuf took this program by the horns, "said Sergeant Roux. "Since then she has been solely putting all the coupons on the products and the savings to the wingmen of Lajes has been enormous." 

"It's $37,000 in six months," said Commissary Director Jim Morino. "That's a lot of money. That's more than a brand new car." 

According to Defense Commissary Agency officials, the average family of four saves about $2,700 each year. Airmen can save more money using coupons.

"I've worked since I was 17 years old," said Mrs. Malboeuf, who found her reward more in the work than the results. "I've always wanted to volunteer but never had the time. Coming to Lajes was my big opportunity and so I thought I'd get involved in something. This is what I got involved in." 

Jasmin Malboeuf's efforts are another example of how Airmen and their families often depend on each other to maintain the quality of life for everyone.
