New York Air Guard supports far reaching science missions
Maintainers from the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing attach jet-assisted takeoff , or JATO, bottles to an LC-130 Hercules "skibird" July 24 on the flight line at Kangerlussuaq Airport, Greenland. JATO provides a few extra knots of speed to pull the aircraft's nose up from skiways on the Greenland ice sheet. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Mike R. Smith)
