AFOSI anniversary
Members of the base honor guard and Air Force Office of Special Investigation, Detachment 602, conduct reveille in front of Arc Light Memorial Park on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, July 31 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of AFOSI. Situated across the Pacific dateline, Det. 602 is the first AFOSI detachment to raise the flag during the year-long celebration. AFOSI plans to lower the same flag on Hickam AFB, Hawaii, July 31, 2008, to conclude the year-long anniversary. AFOSI has been the Air Force's major investigative service since Aug. 1, 1948. The agency reports to the Inspector General, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force and consisting of more than 2,900 federal agents and support personnel. OSI provides professional investigative services to commanders of all Air Force activities. Its primary responsibilities are criminal investigations and counterintelligence services.
