Ospreys, Eagles share airspace at Langley
LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- Tom Olexa (top) and Mitchell Burcham secure an osprey hatchling nesting on top of a birds nest in waters surrounding the base. Eleven osprey were relocated from Langley to a conservation facility in Cumberland, Ohio, to control the population and minimize the risk of potential bird strikes. Mr. Olexa is a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services Division, and Mr. Burcham is an anemology specialist with the 1st Civil Engineer Squadron.
