Tech Sgt.'s Daniel Warren and William Posch, Air Force Reserve pararescuemen, 920th Rescue Wing, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., during a 2010 Afghanistan deployment while en route to the Salang Pass where they were credited with rescuing avalanche victims. The April 21st Alaskan rescue had very similar altitude effects and terrain but on a much larger scale according to Warren. PJs considered special operators skilled in trauma medicine and conditioned athletes trained in extreme sports, such as mountain climbing and skydiving, to quickly get to combatants wounded on the battlefield and administer life-saving medical treatment.
