First MC-130J training program takes flight

Tech. Sgt. Justin Day observes a student performing a startup checklist Feb. 7, 2011, at the Harrisburg International Airport, Pa., during familiarization training on an EC-130J Commando Solo. The new EC-130J model will reduce the crew complement from nine to five members. The loadmaster will be the systems expert and handle the duties traditionally performed by a flight engineer.
