commemorative Antarctic airway chart

This is one of the named waypoints on the commemorative Antarctic airway chart that was presented to the country of New Zealand by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton Nov. 5, 2010, during a ceremony in Christchurch, New Zealand. Each waypoint on the chart was named after a sled dog of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen or the pony pack team of British explorer Capt. Robert Falcon Scott. Frith was one of Mr. Amundsen’s sled dogs. The chart, created by Col. Ronald Smith, is used in international flight navigation from New Zealand to Antarctica, especially for Operation Deep Freeze. Colonel Smith was the commander of Operation Deep Freeze from 2005 to 2008. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Scott T. Sturkol)
