Linebacker II campaign 35th anniversary marked

The 35th anniversary of Linebacker II was commemorated Dec. 18 at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. Linebacker II was an intensive 11-day bombing campaign in December 1972 designed to return the North Vietnamese to the Paris peace talks. Retired Col. Tony Merritt (center) and retired Lt. Col. Chuck McManus, Airmen who were directly involved with Linebacker II, stand beside Brig. Gen. Douglas Owens, 36th Wing commander, during the ceremony. Mr. Merritt later accompanied General Owens to place a memorial wreath at the base of the flag pole in Arc Light Memorial Park to mark the sacrifice made by the Airmen who participated in Linebacker II.
