World Firefighter Combat Challenge
Air Force Academy firefighter Pat Kraft hauls a firehose over his shoulder to cross the 75 feet between him and where he needs to use the firehose to hit a volleyball-sized target during the World Firefighter Combat Challenge XVI in Las Vegas. The hose drag is the fourth of five events, which also include hauling a 42-pound firehose up five flights of stairs, using upper body strength to lift another 42-pound firehose up five stories via a rope, pounding a 160-pound sled weight five feet then running a 100-foot course, and finally dragging a 175-pound dummy backwards 106 feet. Mr. Kraft and his Academy teammates finished the events Nov. 5 in under two minutes, each. (U.S. Air Force photo/John Van Winkle)
