Staff Sgt. Edgar Perez marshals a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle into a C-17 Globemaster III Aug. 25 at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. The new MRAP Category III Buffalo model, which weigh about 50,000 pounds each, will phase out the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, also known as Humvees. MRAPs are designed to reduce servicemembers' casualties by protecting them from improvised explosive devices, and to increase their mobility and enhance mission success throughout the areas of responsibility. Sergeant Perez is an aerial transportation specialist with 438th Aerial Port Flight deployed from Pope Air Force Base, N.C. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Olufemi A. Owolabi)
