"Castle Coombe Mess" cup donated
Retired Lt. Gen. E.G. "Buck" Shuler Jr. examines some of the mementoes of the World War II service of Lt. Col. Charles Jones Sr., as Colonel Jones' son, Charles Jones Jr. provides some background. Colonel Jones was one of the nine original members of the Castle Coombe Mess established by General Ira C. Eaker, who first commanded Eighth Air Force in England during World War II. Lt. Gen. Robert J. Elder Jr., current Eighth Air Force commander, observes as does retired Lt. Gen. Edgar S. Harris Jr. (left). The two retired generals, both former Eight Air Force commanders, and General Elder were visiting with Mr. Jones who was presenting Eighth Air Force with his father's silver cup, one of nine Eaker Bowl cups.
