Purple Heart presentation
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace speaks with Landstuhl Regional Medical Center commander, Col. Brian C. Lein, during a short-notice visit to the largest American hospital outside the United States, July 21. The general presented Purple Heart and spoke with several patients in the intensive care unit. Among those taking part in the visit were Gen. William T. Hobbins, U.S. Air Forces in Europe commander; Lt. Gen. Gary D. Speer, deputy commanding general and chief of staff, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army; and H.C.
