Air Force 'Guardian Angels' put to test at survival competition

Staff Sgt. Michael Garcia and Staff Sgt. Matthew Zimmer, competitors in the 2007 SERE (survival, evasion, resistance and escape) Challenge, swim across a frigid pond in Colville National Forest near Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. The sergeants, both SERE specialists at Fairchild AFB, were pushing a raft they constructed to keep their gear dry. The task was one of many skill sets the 15 teams had to master during the competition. Finishing first, the team won the Col. Bud Day trophy. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Matthew Rosine)
