Space pros remember SVN-15's history

Frank Czopek describes areas of GPS Satellite Vehicle Number 15 that caught fire as a result of an electrical short while the satellite was still on the ground. The fire earned SVN-15 nicknames such as "Firebird," "Old Smokey" and "Sparky II." The 2nd Space Operations Squadron relinquished satellite control authority of SVN-15 to 1st SOPS in a ceremony 16 years after SVN-15 was launched. Mr. Czopek is the Block II and IIa project manager for Boeing. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Don Branum)
