Early aviators memorialized
A final bouquet of flowers is added to a floral display during a ceremony at the Lafayette Memorial outside Paris to pay homage to the United States' first combat aviators who comprised the Lafayette Escadrille. The all-American squadron of volunteers flew under the French flag during World War I where many gave their lives. Among the dignitaries attending the ceremony were Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley and his counterpart, French Gen. Stephane Abrial. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Scott Wagers)
